Information About Basketball
If basketball is to be explained in its simplest definition, it is a game played by hand and aiming to put the ball in a basket-shaped net with a high height. The game of basketball was first invented by the Americans in 1891. In Turkey, basketball was first played in 1904 at Robert College in Istanbul. Our first national experience in basketball was against Greece on June 24, 1936 in Istanbul, and the match resulted in Turkey's victory.
In basketball, teams consist of 12 players, 5 of whom are on the field and 7 are substitutes. Players try to win the match by scoring more points than the opposing team by passing the ball through a circle with a height of 3.05 meters from the ground, called the basket, standing parallel to the ground.
The basketball court is 28 meters long and 15 meters wide and has a floor made of hardwood, concrete or hard soil. There are side and end lines that define the boundaries of the field. The diameter of the circle on which the ball will pass is 45 cm.
There is a net with a hole in the bottom of the circle so that it does not prevent the ball from passing through it. The approximate weight of the basketball is 600-650 g and the circumference is 75-78 cm.
The ball is played with the hands and hitting with the feet is strictly prohibited. The ball moves forward in the form of passing or bouncing one of your teammates. It is forbidden to move forward by handling the ball. At the moment of attack, the attacking basketball player cannot stay in the opposing team's free throw area for more than 3 seconds without the ball in his hand. The player receiving the ball cannot hold the ball for more than 5 seconds without dribbling or passing the ball to anyone. The team that captures the ball in its own court can stay in its own court for a maximum of 10 seconds. On the opposing team's court, he has to try to throw the ball into the basket within 30 seconds at the latest. In matches played in 2 halves of 20 minutes each, the half-time break is 10 minutes. Each team is entitled to 2 time-outs in one half. The team exercising this right has no right to request another time-out.Don't forget to subscribe to our site via the subscribe button to be informed about the most up-to-date information before anyone else.
