Croissants are the ultimate symbol of a luxurious breakfast. These golden, buttery pastries are perfect for a relaxing Sunday morning or impressing your guests. While making croissants takes some time and patience, the end result is well worth the effort. Here is a step-by-step recipe to make perfect croissants at home.





Ingredients:

- 500 g flour

- 60 g sugar

- 10 g salt

- 10 g instant yeast

- 300 ml milk

- 250 g cold butter

- 1 egg (for brushing)

- Sesame seeds (for topping)


Preparation Steps:


1. Making the Dough: 

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add the milk and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic. This will take about 10 minutes. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.


2. Shaping the Dough:

After the dough has risen, knead it again and divide it into two equal parts. Roll each portion out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 1 cm thick. Place the cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper and roll it out into a rectangle slightly smaller than the dough.


3. Incorporating the Butter:

Place the butter in the center of the dough and fold the edges of the dough over the butter to completely encase it. Roll the dough out into a long rectangle and fold it into thirds, as you would a letter. Turn the dough a quarter turn and repeat this rolling and folding process two more times. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.


4. Forming the Croissants:

After resting, roll the dough out into a thin rectangle and cut it into triangles. Roll each triangle from the wide end towards the point to create the classic croissant shape. Place the croissants on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another hour.


5. Baking:

 Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Brush the croissants with beaten egg for a shiny finish. Bake them for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and puffed up.

Serve the croissants warm with a little butter and jam, or fill them with ham and cheese for a savory variation. These homemade croissants are sure to be a hit at any breakfast or brunch!
